Process in case of death of person in Denmark:

  • General Physician need to confirm and issue the Death certificate of the deceased.
  • If GP is not present then contact emergency Services (on weekends and public holidays).
  • No relatives of the deceased, then municipality will take over the deceased.
  • The bank account of the deceased gets frozen
  • The Digital Post box gets blocked.
  • You need to have a clearance from the court to get the things accessible again.
  • Burial Process may cost up to 35000 DKK if done in Denmark (approx.).
  • Kommune can help if funds are not available for the Burial Process by filling an application.
  • Post mortem is not necessary in case of Natural death if family don’t want. (Afsar bhai)
  • An application form to be filled for burial of the body of deceased.
  • The deceased’s body is taken to mortuary for Gosal and preparation for burial.

  • Namaz-e-Janaza can be held at cemetery or at mosque.
  • Family can decide on the graveyard location.
  • Most of the Graveyards have a default period of 10 years of keeping graveyards (20 yrs. in Brøndby) with a possibility if extending the lease period by paying fees.

SECOND SESSION INPUTS AND DISCUSSION

  • We had a Guest name Noman from outside with the domain knowledge who introduced himself and shared his experiences and knowledge.
  • Burial without the coffin is possible only in Brøndby Cemetery.
  • It takes 35-40k for Burial in Danmark.
  • It takes 30-40k for Repatriation process or sending the deceased person’s body to India.
  • To send the body we need a Death Certificate from 1-3 Pages with all the detailed information so that it is cleared without any problems with airline and airport.
  • Body needs Embalming/Mummifying if it has to be send to India.
  • Getting Approvals from Airlines is a challenging factor nowadays.
  • Death/Deceased Passport should be requested and acquired from Embassy as a requirement.
  • To send the body, Freight handlers are the point of contact who then contacts with airline.
  • Receiver information in India needs to be submitted beforehand.
  • No mandatory requirement to travel with dead body.
  • For an individual on deputation, someone/friend in Danmark can be the responsible/power of attorney to do the Documentation process
  • If you have less than 20k assets then one can get help from Kommune of about 12k in the burial process.

  • There are also some insurances policies who covers burial processes which needs to be explore more.
  • For funds look around and different scenarios and do calculation before proceeding was a suggestion from GUEST.
  • We have gone through multiple options on different models for burial fund set up.
  • Also discussed the calculations if we want to set up our own process or should collaborate with existing organizations like DIBF( Danish Islamic Burial Foundation’s Support Association)
